As I wait for my father to return home from work, the long shadows of a summer’s sunset drape over the dusty country roads. Holding my mother’s hands, the distant yet heartfelt memories of my younger self, the smiling faces of my parents waiting for me both tug on my heartstrings but also bring myself to a smile as well. I painted this work as I wait for the international borders to reopen due to the COVID-19 crisis and allow me and many members of our community to reunite with our loved families as soon as possible.
Note: Majoong is a word in Korean that means: ‘to go and welcome back someone home’, often done with the hope to greet them sooner.
